Wings of Light
I didn’t set out to get a backlit shot, but in the end I really liked the light shining through the wings of this Black-billed Magpie flying off a mullein stalk. I had arrived at sunrise, and this shot was taken a few minutes later, luckily just before clouds covered the sun.
From Cornell’s website: “Black-billed Magpies are social, inquisitive birds that eat fruits, grains, insects, small animals, and frequently gather in large flocks at carrion. Magpies move in groups and give a variety of trill, cackle, and whistle calls. They flap steadily in flight, alternating deep and shallow wingbeats, and use their very long tails to negotiate abrupt turns.”
