California Myotis Bat
This bat was photographed in southern Arizona, on a ranch, where they regularly fly over a pond at night to get a drink.
The California myotis is a species of vesper bat. It is found in British Columbia in Canada, Guatemala, Mexico, and in the western United States, including California. This bat is an acrobatic flier and uses small waterholes to obtain needed moisture; it is adapted for arid environments. Individuals are most active soon after sunset and periodically rest at night roosts. They typically feed on moths and flies, but have been known to eat other insects.
